“Urban Coaching Fellowships:” A New Framework for Hiring and Supporting Sports Coaches in Urban Schools

This article presents a vision for how these issues could be addressed by outlining a conceptual framework for an "Urban Coaching Fellowship" (UCF) program. Inspired by alternative teaching pathway programs like Teach for America, the New York City Teaching Fellowship, and the Boston Teacher Residency; UCF programs would use partnerships between large urban school districts, colleges and universities, and local non-profits to recruit, train, and staff schools with well-trained coaches.
Teaching Rehearsals and Repeated Teaching: Practiced-Based Physical Education Teacher Education Pedagogies

In this article, we first describe what these core outcomes of practice-based teacher education are; and then discuss two critical pedagogies, teaching rehearsals and repeated teaching re-envisioned for the purpose of enhancing the practice of teaching. We then describe how we use these pedagogies in our teacher education program as one example of their use and we share preservice teachers perspectives on the use of these pedagogies.

Defining Tennis Content in Upper Elementary Physical Education

This article introduces an evidenced-based knowledge packet of 14 instructional tasks to teach tennis to upper elementary students. The focus of this packet is on beginning tennis which we expect would be taught to upper elementary grades students who are transitioning from learning discrete skills to learning to apply those skills in developmentally appropriate games.
Inclusion in the 21st Century: Insights and Considerations for Teacher and Coach Preparation

This paper discusses barriers to the inclusion of IWD in school-based physical education and other sport and physical activity programs, with an emphasis on the issues related to teacher and coach training. Further, the paper presents considerations on how to address these barriers within physical education teacher education and coaching education undergraduate curricula.
