His research focuses on why “race matters” for PE educator preparation, as he advocates for equitable educational opportunities and stronger recruitment and retention practices for Faculty and Students of Color in higher education.

Sean Nevills is a lifetime member of SHAPE America and current host for the SHAPE America EDI Podcast. As a former project director for SHAPE America, Sean led the CDC-funded COVID-19 initiatives for the 2020-21 school year. Previously, Sean served as director of health and physical education for the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. He is a licensed K-12 physical educator who has taught adapted PE, high school PE, and virtual classes throughout his teaching career. Sean’s work in education includes curriculum development, employee and community wellness, and educational equity. Sean has nearly 15 years of football coaching experience from the youth level through college and several years of experience coaching track and field. He is an active member of Missouri SHAPE and serves as chair of MOSHAPE’s Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Committee.

Dr. Dixon is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Content Area Teacher Education. His current research foci are centered on the educator preparation of Physical Education students at PWIs and the racialized experiences of students and faculty of color in higher education. He seeks to advocate for equitable educational opportunities for all by critically examining higher education, physical education pedagogy, and teacher preparation, in addition to better understanding the recruitment, retention, and experiences of Faculty and Students of Color in higher education. Dr. Dixon’s research has been presented and published at various national and international conferences and in leading academic journals.

Sue Scheppele is a doctoral physical education fellow at Springfield College in Springfield, MA. She taught preK-8 physical education for seven years and was a lead PE teacher in the Houston Independent School District. In addition, she was a high school health and physical education teacher for three years in Pittsburgh. Sue is a certified DEI trainer for the Anti-Defamation League and received the Walter Kase Award for teacher excellence in 2017.

Kyle Bragg is a National Board Certified Teacher, as well as the 2021 Shape America National Elementary Physical Education Teacher of the Year. He received his bachelor’s degree at Illinois State University and his master’s degree from Nova Southeastern University. Korey Boyd is an assistant professor in the School of Physical Education, Performance and Sport Leadership at Springfield College in Massachusetts. His primary role at Springfield College is teaching undergraduate and graduate Secondary methods courses in the Physical Education Teacher Education (PETE) initial leisure program. His philosophy of PETE follows similar logic and produces the following axiom: Produce better thinkers, not better thinking.
