North American Society Announces 2018 Honorees
RESTON, VA, March 12, 2018 —Lynn Johnson, chair of the North American Society of Health, Physical Education, Recreation, Sport and Dance Fellows (NAS), today announced its class of 2018 outstanding professionals. This year’s honorees will be recognized at the 133rd SHAPE America National Convention & Expo in Nashville, March 22, at the Professional Excellence Awards Ceremony. They were:

- Marybell Avery, Lincoln Public Schools, NE (retired)
- Kelly Boyd, East Stroudsburg University, PA
- Suzanne S. Mueller, East Stroudsburg University, PA
- Joonkoo Yun, Oregon State University
Established in 1999, the NAS recognizes outstanding professionals from within the allied professions of health education, physical education, recreation, sport and dance in North America. Presenting this year’s honorees will be Dr. Fran Cleland, president of SHAPE America-Society of Health and Physical Educators, and Dr. Brian Lewis representing Physical and Health Education Canada (PHE Canada).
Individuals are members of SHAPE America or PHE Canada who have demonstrated outstanding competence through professional involvement over a period of at least 20 years.
“The North American Society is reserved for members of SHAPE America and PHE Canada who have made significant and sustained contributions,” says Johnson. “Its purpose is to bring together recognized leaders from the various fields for the purpose of collaboration and gaining fresh perspectives on the latest issues and trends affecting the professions.”
Since its first class in 2000, approximately 164 individuals have been inducted into the society.
